Sorrow

I woke to sounds of singing birds
To joyful morning sun and sky
All creation woke in bliss
I woke in sorrow- ah, but why

The mystic thrill of dawn was spent
The feel of summer waxed away
The blue and amber sky was black
My heart … a writhing winter gray

Great, as always.

By the way, I'm going to write a sonnet collection, but I have a hard time with the iambic meter (swedish isn't the best language for it - that's why almost every popular swedish poet writes in free verse.) I hope I get it, though! I think I need this challenge to take the next step.

That's totally awesome, PJ. Look, you're an incredible poet, I have no doubts whatsoever that you'll produce a gorgeous collection of sonnets.

Now, I'm sure the meter might get lost transliterating it to English, but I'd love to read your collection when you complete it (or, each sonnet upon completion).

By the way, I meant for this current poem to contain an eight syllable count in each line, but it looks like I'm missing a syllable in line three ... although this was unintentional, I think I like it, a lot! So I'm leaveing it as is ...

A lovely, heartbreaking poem. You have captured the sentiment of heart most simply and succinctly. Outstanding piece.
