What a find. What's the date on that thing? I can just make it out on the bottom. I've only come across a couple of books that replace 's' with 'f' (some kind of Germanic thing?). All I know is that means they're OLD.

ReplyDeleteParadise Lost was originally published in 1667; this particular copy has a publishing date of 1668.
ReplyDeleteI think 'ſ' is related to 15th century Gothic print and was used to replace the what we'd call the lower case 's' when printing first emerged.
